Adoptive options for filters

The Adoptive Options tab is one of our favorites. Here you can adopt terms from the displayed products. This means that the remaining terms in filter will always correspond to the shown products.

We’ll make a quick note here that all the options you set within General, Style, Adoptive or Responsive options are set to currently edited filter preset, and not globally.

The Adoptive options are simple:

  • Enable
  • Active on
  • Depend on
  • Product count
  • Reorder terms

Enable

This enables the Adoptive Filtering engine in general. Still it will not be active it on filters, because every filter has an option to activate it or not on itself, and by default, that option is set to OFF

Active on

Option sets when to activate the adoptive engine. Why? Adoptive is complex and will extend load times, so it is wise to know when it’s active. Available options are:

  • Always active – This means engine will be active at all times
  • Active on permalinks and filters – This option will wait for the filters or permalinks to activate to enable the engine. This is only useful on Shop/Product archives. Don’t use it with custom pages or shortcodes
  • Active on filters – This option allows the engine running only when some of the filters are active. This will work for custom pages and shortcodes

Depend on

By default this should be set to Not set. Then any activate filter will work in relation with others to see which terms are in the shown products. If you set it to depend on a certain taxonomy, this means that, only

Product count

Prouct count or the recount better said, is how adoptive filtering will interact with product counts. By default all products are counted and showed next to a term. If you want just the remaining terms, you’d probably want remaining product counts too, so set this option

Reorder terms

Reorder terms will bring the remaining terms to the top of the list

  1. Hi,

I really tried all sort of things, but I can’t seem to make it work. What I want: I have both Camera’s and Lenses. When people select ‘lenses’ in the filters, I want filters like ‘video quality’ or ‘megapixels’ to be gone from the page and same for when people search for camera’s, I don’t want to see the lens filters. How do I do that? Do I need to make different filter sets and add them both? Or Is there a certain setting in the adoptive part. The explanation on this page is not very clear to me to be honest.

    Thank you!

      1. @dzeriho if you answer here instead to redirect users to the support ticket, you will help many people instead that are just visiting the website for info and documentations. People that have a similar problem maybe.

        1. Hi, this is a private website, a Help Center for our items. I think that these articles will be restricted to customers only at one point, then we can share more info. Thanks.
